The 2013 “Who’s Who in America’s Neighborhoods” award recipient is:

Richard Whipple

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Mr. Richard Whipple is a former Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA) board member and serves the organization as its technical advisor to host cities of the NUSA conference. His contributions to the NUSA organization and to neighborhoods across the nation have helped improve and unite communities across the country. The coordinator of the 2004 NUSA conference in Hollywood, Fla., Whipple is a key and integral part of the annual Florida Statewide Neighborhood Conference. Since retiring from the City of Hollywood, Fla., where he worked closely with neighborhood leaders, Whipple has maintained a tireless regimen of helping communities across the state of Florida, the United States and even internationally. “A good leader leads by example, and Richard’s examples undoubtedly qualify him for recognition as a leader in community engagement and empowerment,” writes one of the 14 people who nominated him for this honor. Accepting the award, Whipple told 2013 conference attendees one of the reasons he is so passionate about the annual conference is because “after registration, you’re no longer a stranger.”
