2014 Who’s Who in America’s Neighborhoods Award

The Board of Directors of Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA) annually recognizes neighborhood advocates and volunteers whose work mirrors the mission of NUSA with the “Who’s Who in America’s Neighborhoods” award. Established in 2010, the award honors individual(s) who work to: (1) build and strengthen neighborhood associations; (2) encourage neighborhood involvement in the decision-making process in local governments; and (3) promote productive communications and collaborations among neighborhood associations, local governments and the public and private sectors. 2014 Neighborhood of the Year

Hawthorne Center – Indianapolis, Indiana has been selected as the Grand Prize Winner for the 2014 Neighborhood of the Year Award. Near West Collaborative is the community-organizing arm of four neighborhoods. One of their largest objectives was a clean-up that hosted 400 volunteers and 200 residents. Their effort, which is a part of the Great Indy Clean-Up, provided four neighborhoods in and around the Hawthorne Center the opportunity to clean up 15 tons of trash, paint fire hydrants and plant 50 trees.

2014 Best Neighborhood Newsletter Competition

The Board of Directors of Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA) annually recognizes neighborhood newsletters.
Entries are evaluated and scored on criteria like layout, consistency, content, relevance and overall
appearance. There are two divisions – printed and electronic newsletters – and in both of those
